Make your own record
"In an effort to boldly 3D print where no man or woman has 3D printed before, I've created a technique for converting digital audio files into 3D printable 33rpm records and printed some functional prototypes over the weekend. These records play on regular turntables, with regular needles, at regular speeds, just like any vinyl record."

Arnold Kasar
Some great music for the boiling hot weather here in Chicago. Arnold Kasar just put out a record that's instrumentation includes only a grand piano and a sampler. Pretty righteous. And the title of the album, "The Piano Has Been Smoking", even has a tip-of-the-hat to Tom Waits... which is awesome. Get the album here.
The End of Version 12
If you're not able to say, "yeah, I went to the epic Version Fest this year", well tomorrow night (Friday May 25th, 2012) is your last chance. Check out The Chandeliers and a super special techno set by Deep Sleep (Plural's own Jeremiah Chiu on the jams and Mike Bingaman on live visuals). At First Trinity Community Center starting at 9pm.
Personal Space
I haven’t posted about a knock-out record in quite ahwile, but Chocolate Industries’ Personal Space has been tearin’ up my turntable all weekend.
“If the independently-pressed record made the galaxy of recorded music that much larger, the burgeoning home studio became the black hole from which little escaped … This collection presents the unheard underground of the self-produced, often solo, electronic soul world of the ‘70s and early ‘80s, offering a view into an ocean of sound that is in turn peaceful, bizarre, funky, and often humbly ahead of its time.”
Ridiculously good.
