The Listening Room
January 17, 2012
Hey Chicago: ever wonder what happened to the music that used to flow from Dr. Wax before it shut it’s doors? Turns out the whole shebang found it’s way to the Seattle Art Museum via “The Listening Room,” an installation by Chicago artist Theaster Gates.
“…the finished installation [has] the look and feel of a speak-easy, church, storefront and museum gallery all rolled into one. The centerpiece of the show is the DJ Booth, made by Gates out of reclaimed materials…”
Pretty interesting concept, complemented by sister installation “Record Store,” a collaboration between the museum and Olson Kundig Architects.
